Project Overview

Friends of the Teton River is dedicated to the development of a scientific understanding and to the creation of educational programs pertaining to the Teton watershed. Also they focus on implementing on the ground projects to improve conditions in the Teton River, its tributaries and wetlands. They further their mission by conducting scientific research about the Teton watershed.

The Jackson Hole One Fly Foundation – National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Conservation Partnership Program is providing funding for this project to enhance fisheries and improve water quality in the Upper Teton Watershed by restoring two Teton River spring-fed tributaries. Restoring eroding banks and instream spawning gravels, through revegetating riparian areas and removing silt the project improves historic spawning and rearing habitat for Yellowstone cutthroat trout while reducing sediments and unhealthy nutrient levels. A recent trout density study conducted by Idaho Fish & Game concluded that Yellowstone cutthroat trout populations on the Teton River decline by 95% between 1999 and 2003 making the need for this project more immediate than ever before.

Project Status:

This project was just approved and the grantees have just received their contracts. Implementation of the project will begin shortly.
