Trout Unlimited’s Rico Diversion Fish Passage and Stabilization Project focuses on improving fish passage and habitat for Snake River Fine-Spotted Cutthroat Trout on the Salt River near Etna, Wyoming. The existing diversion is a barrier to fish passage, requires annual river disturbance for maintenance, and poses a hazard for boaters. Both upstream and downstream, heavily eroding banks are threatening homes and contributing large sediment loads to the river. This project will replace the existing diversion with a permanent rock ramp structure that allows for safe fish and boater passage, use applicable bioengineering techniques to stabilize eroding banks, and reestablish natural channel dimensions and riparian vegetation. This project will take place adjacent to River Ranch Loop and Sandhill Lane on the Salt River. The project site is 2.0 miles south and 0.5 miles west of the Etna, Wyoming post office.
